WHAT IS TRAUMA?
Trauma is the lasting impact of deeply distressing experiences, whether once or repeatedly over an extended period. It's a powerful force that can profoundly shape and influence our lives.
Trauma Treatment
My Approach
Using a polyvagal theory lens, I empower you to recognize and manage common symptoms, understanding the meaning of overwhelming body sensations, intrusive emotions, and distorted cognitive schemas. This knowledge puts you in control, allowing you to focus on grounding and stabilization using a variety of strategies including Somatic Therapy, Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance skills and emotional regulation techniques.
Following stabilization, we shift our focus to Cognitive Processing Therapy. This approach plays a pivotal role in our journey, helping us to comprehend and alter distorted cognitive schemas.
Through an Attachment lens, I emphasize the importance of developing healthy relationships, fostering a sense of connection and support.
Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
PTSD symptoms can include intrusive memories, nightmares, and flashbacks. People may avoid trauma reminders, leading to emotional numbness. They may also experience chronic anger, insomnia, impaired concentration, and a constant sense of danger.
